Big Races

Summer fun is in full swing around here. We are having fun soaking up the sun and enjoying our favorite time of year. Both David and I completed races on back to back weekends. Mine was first, called the Deschutes Dash, which was my first sprint triathlon. My friend Michelle and I did it together and we had a blast. Lucky for me, Michelle is a seasoned triathlete, so it was super helpful to have her by my side as we completed the swim (1300 yards down stream in the river), bike (12 miles) and run (5k). Here are a few pics from our training day the weekend before... Then last weekend was David's relay race with a team of mostly old book selling friends. They were a team of six studly guys crazy enough to run from the Canadian border to Whidby Island. Most other teams had 12 people, but our guys decided to be extra tough and double up the running legs. They ran through the night, and each runner had more than 30 miles to cover. An impressive feat and cool accomplishment. Way to go boys! At the last minute we decided to make David's race a family vacation, so we piled the crew in the good ol' mini van and we all made the trek up to Bellingham for a few days before Dave started his race. Bellingham holds such a special place in our hearts because it is the town I lived in when we first started dating. It was fun to rehash all the memories and go back to some of our favorite spots...Little Cheerfuls, Lake Padden, even did a drive by of 1409 Iron street, the house I lived in while in school. It seems like such a lifetime ago - we have come a long way since then! A big highlight was visiting my good friend Lindsay and her husband Keith who have moved back to Bellingham. It is so refreshing to hang out with old friends, I love that we can pick up right where we left off the last time we hung out. Lindsay and Keith were great(not surprisingly) with our kids who had so much fun in their beautiful back yard and garden, complete with chickens, raspberries, snap peas and a sprinkler!!! Thanks guys for a great visit. And another bonus was meeting up with my friend and college roommate Courtney. She has a summer home in Sudden Valley which is on Lake Whatcom - such a beautiful place. Unfortunately Dave had to start his race, so he missed out on this visit. But the kids and I had a great time at her beach. It was too short of a visit, but great to catch up and see Courtney and her kids. After the lake, Piper, Calvin, Jett and I headed to Seattle for some Grandma and Grandpa time. We had a quick but packed full of fun time - hitting up the spray park with Auntie, Uncle Kevin and Garret and the neighborhood kiddie pool. Summer in Seattle is so nice and we had a great time hanging on my parents deck feeling the Puget Sound breeze to cool us off. Saturday night Dave rolled in after his race and pretty much collapsed into bed, then we packed up and headed back to Bend in the AM. It was a quick trip, but better than nothing! Before heading home we went to Greenlake for a quick park play time with uncle Topher. For the past month we have had Dave's mom in town. It has been super nice to have her help with the kids and fun for her to spend so much time with them. Piper and the boys love all the extra Grandma love and Dave and I have enjoyed all the extra date nights! Thanks Alice! I am afraid that summer is going to go by in a blink. It is amazing to have babies in our life, it is such an evident reminder of time passing. So much changes so fast, it is fun and exciting times. The boys are getting big and gaining skills. In the last week Calvin has really started moving around and wiggling across the room. Jett is quite good at sitting and rolls once, but still pretty stationary. Very soon we are going to have two monsters moving and shaking, most likely going in opposite directions! I have a feeling we are in trouble!
